Raise A Gorgeous Glass

Joyce Firner, Mission

Why she's a stylemaker: Joyce Firner loves beautiful cocktail stemware, but she doesn’t feel the need to procure matching sets. Instead, she buys one of a color or pattern she loves. It’s an inspired idea for entertaining.

The Collection: When Firner sets the table for the supper club she co-founded, she uses matching plates, linens and flatware. However, she’ll put a different glass at each place setting.

“Guests will sometimes choose where they sit because they like a particular glass,” says Firner, an interior designer and owner of Design Gallery, a to-the-trade showroom in Leawood. “When I’m serving cocktails, they love picking out their favorite glass. Because they’re mismatched, I don’t have to use wine charms for people to remember which glass they’re using.”

THE BACK STORY: Firner bought the first glass for her collection on her 30th birthday, a gold-accented glass from a store in La Jolla, Calif. Then she started buying glasses on trips, and friends gave them to her for special occasions.THE BACK STORY: Firner bought the first glass for her collection on her 30th birthday, a gold-accented glass from a store in La Jolla, Calif.
