Splashes of Color Suit Men

The designer shows last month in Milan, Italy, offered some clues for men wondering what they will be wearing when the election is decided or the Chiefs get started again.

The color theme tended toward grays pumped up with a splash of red, orange or blue. A purple-cast wine seemed new. Tactile textured fabrics were strong, and classic silhouettes were tweaked only a bit.

Among some of the influential names, Giorgio Armani offered luxurious ideas such as quilted velvets and shawl-wrapped sweaters. He likes elegant daytime suits that slide easily into evening.

At Calvin Klein, monochromatic suits and shirts provided a fresh perspective. But the futuristic fabrics in which ribs and spinal images appeared in a reaction to body heat struck a quirky note.

Gucci had a Russian peasant theme with patterned tunics and chains. And Prada, apparently inspired by early Yves Saint Laurent, offered suits that fastened to the side like a woman’s tunic jacket. Dress shirts had double collars.
