Homing in On Style

Caroline McCallister, Kansas City

WHY SHE’S A STYLEMAKER: The interior designer wears clothing that mimics her home décor. This means McCallister doesn’t only talk the talk, she walks the walk.

OUTFITTING THE PERSON AND THE HOME: Usually home decor follows runway fashion. But how often are people inspired enough by their interiors to dress in a similar style?

A case in point is McCallister’s wardrobe:

-The clear acrylic heels of her black suede Stuart Weitzman boots are reminiscent of the Lucite end tables in her living room.

-The geometric-patterned Tory Burch blouses she favors were inspired by the late, great designer David Hicks; the rug in McCallister’s dining room and the fabric on the accent pillows in her sunroom are also by David Hicks.

-McCallister often wears muted animal prints similar to her sofa’s throw pillows.

THE MORAL OF HER STORY: “These are all clean-lined designs that don’t have anything frilly or fussy about them,” McCallister says. “They’re stylish, but whether they’re used in clothing or in a room, they make you notice the person first.”THE MORAL OF HER STORY: “These are all clean-lined designs that don’t have anything frilly or fussy about them,” McCallister says. “They’re stylish, but whether they’re used in clothing or in a room, they make you notice the person first.”
