Hair and makeup (think blushing bride) complete the look
Once you have chosen your gown, it’s time to think about hair.
“I encourage brides to look at magazines and decide if they want a contemporary, classic or modern style and to know their wedding day itinerary,” said Lorra Turner, Bridal Consultant for Bijin Salon & Day Spa.
“It’s very popular to have hair down with loose flowing curls — more natural looking hair. Up-dos are very smooth, not a lot of ringlets, very chic and contemporary looking.”
To keep your hairstyle looking fresh throughout the day, Turner suggests keeping a bottle of classic hairspray for touch-ups. Another tip for up-dos is to wash your hair the day before your wedding. It is typically freshly washed hair that falls down.
Lastly, you need to think about makeup and how to enhance your features for photographs without looking too made-up.
Susan Saskin, makeup artist for Bobbi Brown at Halls Plaza, had these suggestions:
“Get your skin in shape well before the wedding. Make sure that you exfoliate, because you want your skin to be in the best condition possible. Keep makeup simple; you don’t want to overwhelm the bride with color. Every bride looks great in pinks, softer on cheekbones with a pop of color on the apples of the cheeks.”
Saskin added that you’ll probably need touch-ups to avoid looking washed out in photos, so keep your lipstick, lip liner, gloss, powder and cheek color nearby.
When you talk to stylists and makeup artists about the look you want, be sure to let them know what you do and don’t like. After all, it’s your day!

Light As a Feather: There are a lot of feathers right now in headpieces; most brides still wear some sort of hair accessory — veils, tiaras, headbands, combs, picks etc.,” said Marilyn Morman, manager of Bridal Extraordinaire.
