Style Goes On Safari

It’s a jungle out there this season

Designers have taken cues from global tribes and classic safari looks for an updated city chic style for this spring and summer. Style.com calls the trend “Style Tribes” and highlights numerous designers who have influenced the safari trend.

Donna Karan displayed her safari side with dresses and short-sleeve jackets in graphic black and white leaf prints accented with tangerine.

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez gave safari a sophisticated twist at Proenza Schouler. They showed black and white zebra patterns, lots of khaki and some amazing gold-leaf dresses.

African tribal prints and beads were some of the standouts at Oscar de la Renta, as well. Accessories were trimmed with feathers and khaki safari jackets were paired with olive pants.

Kristen Addington, PR/event coordinator for Standard Style Boutique on the Country Club Plaza, is already a fan of the safari look.

“I love safari trends, I think they are easy to wear at any age+,” she said. It’s easy to mix safari inspired pieces into a wardrobe with a scarf, shirt dress or khaki jacket over white trousers.

“I recently purchased a short-sleeved safari jacket that is belted at the waist. I’ve already worn it over jeans with chunky heels, white Bermuda shorts and sandals and I’m planning to wear it with a full skirt and gladiator heels. I’m hoping to take it into fall with a black pencil skirt. My favorite look is the shirt dress with wooden bangles, lots of wooden bangles,” she said.

Whatever your budget the safari trend is within reach. It has landed at every price point, from couture Paris runways to Banana Republic and Forever 21.
